I bought this because I ran out of USB ports on my new Mac and was tired of switching cables. I also had trouble recognizing some of my SDHC 8 gig cards with the extension I was using so I wouldn’t have to keep turning the computer around. I plugged the unit into a USB port and hooked up the power unit to a power strip. Everything worked that I plugged in including the Lightscribe DVD recorder, something I have had trouble hooking up with a hub before. One day I forgot to turn on the power strip I use for the unit and it still worked. I now use Velcro to attach it to the desk so it stays put and I plug my cards into it without a problem. I like the one on top, it makes it easy to attach the cards. Also the hub has a red light which is lit when the unit is on. My new Mac goes to sleep when left alone for a short time and has no indicator to let you know it is asleep. As long as the power strip is off the red light is only on when the computer is on. Since I don’t have to keep the power strip on the red light is my indicator for the status of the computer, nice. If you have had problems with hubs before get this one, it works great.

It is also an excellent night light because the blue leds on the top put out a highly directional light that puts a nice three foot wide blue circle on the ceiling.

This gives you three more usb ports than you had before because you give one up to plug it into the computer.

This hub is handy because the side ports let you keep long term connections out of the way, while the top port works for quick use of memory sticks. Speed seems fine and it was recognized right away by Win 7.
